IThe Broncos are a member of the Western Division of the American Football Conference. They were originally part of the American Football League and joined the NFL when the two merged.

Trivia About The Team

The Broncos were the winners of the first ever American Football League game in 1960 where they beat the Boston Patriots 13-10.

They have the distinction of being the first ever AFL team to beat a NFL team in 1967 when they defeated the Detroit Lions 13-7.

The Broncos have reached the Super Bowl six times and won it in 1997 and 1998. Considering they were an unsuccessful team for the first thirteen years of their career, this was an incredible achievement.

On January 1st 2007, 24 year old cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in downtown Denver.

Tragedy struck the Broncos again when running back Damien Nash collapsed and died while playing a charity basketball game in April this year. His brain was donated to science and researchers believe that it can help in ascertaining the impact head injuries to players have on their brains.

The Broncos Tryst With The Super Bowl

It was under head coach Red Miller and quarterback Craig Morton that the Broncos reached their first ever Super Bowl in 1977. They were ultimately defeated by the Dallas Cowboys 27-10. They lost their next three Super Bowls as well, to the New York Giants in 1986, Washington Redskins in 1987 and San Francisco 49ers in 1989.

The Broncos went on to win their first Super Bowl in 1997 under head coach Mike Shanahan where they beat the Green Bay Packers 31-24. They won it again the next year where they defeated the Atlanta Falcons 34-19.

In their career, which really took off in 1977, they have won six AFC Conference championships, ten AFC West Division championships and the Super Bowl twice. For a team which had a barren beginning and almost lost its franchise in 1965, this is a great achievement.

In their initial years, the Denver Broncos played in Mile High Stadium which was their home field. This stadium was renowned for its reputation to have all but two of its games sold out from 1970 to 2006. It was demolished eventually and the Broncos new home field is the Invesco Field at Mile High where they have been playing since 2001.
